Ladies and Gentlemen, drumroll, please...

We have an announcement to make! And it's kind of huge and really awesome and we're super duper excited. I bet you can't wait to find out what it is. You're probably on the edge of your seat with anticipation... "What could it be?" you wonder, as you race through these words, eagerly hoping to get to this vital, incredible information. Your pulse races, your thoughts swirl through your head... "What incredible news could they possibly bring to the otherwise dreary landscape of my desktop?"

Well, I'll tell you. Ladies and Gentlemen... Drumroll, please...

Death of an Angel, the long-awaited Act I Finale, is finished! Completely scored. This marks our first fully-orchestrated piece in the show. It's a huge milestone, and we're absolutely thrilled! Demo will be forthcoming in the link on the side, just as soon as we finish recording the vocals! Can't wait to share it with you!

Blurb - "Hold a Candle"

So this song is going to be the first song of the second act. It's for a funeral - Kai's father. The song starts out telling everyone how Kai's father was always too busy to spend any time with him, and how he never knew him, but by the end, Kai realizes that he was actually a good father, overall, and he just wanted to take care of him.

Character: Kai
Favorite Line: "As far as fathers go/ No one could Hold a Candle to you..."
Hardest line to write: "He always said it was all for me/ He always talked about how things could be"
Why: The syllables again. They just felt awkward, but I wanted to get across the idea that Kai's father was really doing all of this for him, but he never noticed until now.

New song! "Hold a Candle"

Hold a Candle

Kai:
I've known you since birth
But you never knew me
You've watched me grow
I've watched you leave me behind...
All my life I've had one mission,
Just a father's recognition

Hold a candle for a man who never knew me
Make your wishes as the star floats away
Hold a candle high for one who loved
Some say too much, some not enough,
But he tried...

Hold a candle for a man who never saw me
For a man who always had more work to do...
He always said it was all for me
He always talked about how things could be
But he died...

So hold a candle to the sky
Make a wish and say goodbye
Tell him everything you'll miss
One last touch
One last kiss
Remember everything he'd say
Dry your eyes and walk away
Promise never to forget
The life he lived...

Hold a candle for a man who never left me
Hold a candle for the things we'll never do...
[To casket]
But dad, I wanted you to know
As far as fathers go
No one could hold a candle to you...

Tuesday Update!

Hey, folks! It's Tuesday, which usually means a new song, but I'm kind of lagging a little on the lyrics for the one I'm working on... Don't worry, I'll get there! Tony and I worked on the orchestrations for Death of an Angel today, and let me tell you, they sound AWESOME! I'm posting the updated mp3 of what we have so far, which you can access in this link (which can also be found on the sidebar)... We've got roughly half a dance break, and a verse left, and then it's done! Woo hoo! Also, you can hopefully expect to see lyrics for a new song within the next day or so. I'm trying, I swear... I'll give you a hint: it's a funeral song!

Blurb - "The Match"

So, this song, "The Match" is finally the play on words I've been trying to write for a while now... We knew we wanted to include a play on words with the title, Matches, but hadn't figured out where to put it yet. Well, here it is. This is a solo for Jane's character, and is sung right after she wakes up in the hospital and Kai is gone, when she realizes she's always been in love with him. This is the moment she decides she has to go after him.

Character: Jane
Favorite Line: "If the fire dies, I'll only get burned."
Hardest line to write: "I didn't know and so I ran/ from all that we could be"
Why: I changed this line so many times... I knew what I wanted to say, but I couldn't make it work...

"The Match"

The Match

Jane:
I’ve never heard a stranger line
than “the fires of love that’s true”
For every man I’d ever met
was a flame that never grew
But now I understand the phrase
He’s been here with me all my days
Each other guy was a spark that died but
He’s always been the match

I’ve wasted time on other men
Pursuing petty shine
But the glow that shows when first we meet
grows darkened over time
No one else could ever last
the light grew dimmer all too fast
Though the fire grew, I never knew
He’s always been the match

A match can keep you warm at night
in darkness, it’s a guiding light
a spark does nothing more than glow
for seconds at a time
A girl deserves a roaring fire
that’s fueled by hope, and burns desire
It starts with just a simple match
and he was nearly mine

He has to know, I have to try
as he tried to tell me
I didn’t know and so I ran
from all that we could be
I promised him I’d always stay,
but I grew scared and ran away
If the fire dies, I’ll only get burned
He has to know my lesson’s learned
through thick and thin, it was always him...

He’s always been the match...
